Turning 50 has a way of changing the way one thinks.
For years, I had such a short viewpoint…just past the nose on my face…and could only focus on what was next: the next meal, cleaning up after said meal, kids’ needs, husband’s needs, laundry, bills, groceries, etc.
I have always enjoyed these things (well, mostly – come on), and I still do! But as I move into the latter part of my life (like, last half…I’m not on death’s door or anything), things are changing. Rapidly. And I want to have a place to record, process, and develop my thoughts and feelings about things.
So this blog isn’t about readership. Or monetizing. Or popularity. Not in the least.
It’s about developing my love for writing. And finding my voice again. And in the process, delving into the philosophy of joie de vivre – the joy of life – this new life experience after 50.
Working after 25+ years at home.
Empty nesting.
Moving past my homeschooling years. About 23 of them.
Cooking for two.
Finding ways to love on friends and family – all different from what it was before.
In my inspiration for the name of this blog, Joie de Vivre, I found a quote that speaks deeply to me:
“The happiness of your life depends on the nature of your thoughts.”
Marcus Aurelius
So this blog is a way for me to keep the things that bring me joy, make me happy, and keep me fulfilled at the forefront of my mind. Because I know when I do that, the result will be one thing:

And I can always use more of that.
